When, again, we found ourselves awake early, we decided to head south to Chillicothe, Ohio, where the Great Seal State Park is. We actually thought we might've missed the best bit of the morning light, but we managed to hit the road in time to catch the sunrise rapidly burning off some patchy fog over the farms along 23 South.
The park itself was quite pretty, and we were initally impressed with the trail signage -- impressed, that is, until we struck out on a trail that started OK but became overgrown and rapidly dwindled to nothingness. We pressed on, crashing through brambles and thorny bushes, thinking a trail would magically emerge from the chaos, but to no avail. Finally, we threw in the towel and consulted the GPSes to back-track through the tangles and climb up a different trail, 400 feet to a lovely, autumnal ridge. JKLsemi on Flickr: Posted a Photo

C. Richard Dorn and Mark Sullivan (Marilyn Dorn Sullivan's son, since deceased) standing next to the funeral monument to Jacob Uhrich in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Chillicothe, Ohio. Dr. Dorn is wearing an Ohio State Buckeyes ballcap and holding up the family history that guided the group to this location, Ethel Dorn Martin's (1968) The Life of Peter and Katharine Dorn (Brazos: Maryville, Tenn.).
